Tragedy struck Ogun State on Monday evening as two separate auto accidents claimed lives in different locations, with one incident involving a suspected ritual killing by an internet fraudster.
Woman Killed in Suspected Ritual Hit
A woman identified as Kehinde Adewummi lost her life on Monday night when a speeding vehicle, believed to be driven by an internet fraudster, struck her in Abeokuta. The tragic incident occurred around 8:00 pm opposite the Renewed MKO Abiola Sporting Arena in Kuto, Abeokuta.
Eyewitnesses reported that the impact was so severe that parts of the victim's body were shattered across the road. The driver immediately fled the scene after hitting the woman, who was returning home to Laderin after completing her day's work.
One witness made serious allegations against the driver, claiming the collision was intentional. "I think those boys are finding every means to renew their money ritual," the witness stated, referring to the common practice of internet fraudsters, locally known as 'Yahoo boys,' engaging in ritual activities to boost their fraudulent schemes.
The victim's remains were later evacuated from the scene using a sack, according to accounts from the location.
Second Fatal Crash on Lagos/Abeokuta Expressway
In a separate incident on the same day, one person died when a Man Diesel truck with registration number EPE 513 YJ collided with a red BAJAJ Boxer motorcycle bearing registration number WDE 403 VQ. This accident occurred at Iyana-Ologbo along the busy Lagos/Abeokuta Expressway in Ogun State.
Babatunde Akinbiyi, spokesperson for the Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps (TRACE), confirmed the details in an official statement. He revealed that two passengers were involved in the crash, with one male adult dying at the scene.
The TRACE spokesperson attributed the cause of the accident to excessive speed by the truck driver, who reportedly hit the motorcycle from behind. The remains of the victim have been deposited at the Ifo General Hospital morgue for proper documentation and collection by family members.
Authorities Respond to Tragic Incidents
The back-to-back fatal accidents have raised concerns about road safety in Ogun State. TRACE officials have documented both incidents and are investigating the circumstances surrounding each case.
While the motorcycle-truck collision appears to be a case of speeding and possible reckless driving, the Abeokuta incident involving the death of Kehinde Adewummi has taken a more sinister turn with allegations of intentional killing for ritual purposes.
Road safety advocates are calling for increased enforcement of traffic regulations and better driver education to prevent such tragic losses of life on Ogun State roads.
