In a decisive move to ensure timely project delivery, the Minister of Works, Engr. Dave Umahi, has issued a firm deadline to one contractor while commending another during an inspection of the critical Abuja-Keffi dual carriageway.
JRB Construction Earns Ministerial Praise
During an on-the-spot assessment tour, Minister Umahi lauded JRB Construction Company Limited for its professional and speedy execution of the road project awarded to it in October 2025. The minister acknowledged the company's role in showcasing the capacity of indigenous Nigerian firms to handle large-scale infrastructure.
"JRB Construction has demonstrated professionalism and speed in delivering this project, but there are areas that need perfection," Umahi stated, indicating that while performance was exceptional, some refinements were still required.
In his response, the Chairman of JRB Group, Jimoh Rauf, expressed gratitude for the federal government's trust in local contractors. He provided a clear completion timeline, assuring that the project would be fully completed by the end of March 2026.
Strict Deadline for China Habour Engineering
The minister's tone shifted during the inspection of the section handled by China Habour Engineering. Umahi set an uncompromising deadline for the company, demanding the completion of its portion.
"I am giving you the end of February to hand over this job. You must come to my office on Wednesday with your timetable and a commitment to complete the project by then," the minister warned the contractors.
This directive underscores the ministry's new posture for 2026, which Umahi declared an "action year." He emphasized that indiscipline, negligence, and failure to adhere to directives would no longer be tolerated.

The Abuja-Keffi road is a major arterial route linking the Federal Capital Territory with Nasarawa State. It is vital for thousands of civil servants who commute daily. Its reconstruction is expected to significantly ease traffic congestion and reduce travel time upon completion.
