A fatal stabbing incident in Fotokol, Cameroon, has sparked retaliatory attacks on Nigerian nationals, leaving one Nigerian dead and several others injured.
According to security analyst Zagazola Makama, the incident began at about 3:30 p.m. on April 29, 2026, when a Cameroonian man was allegedly stabbed to death by a Nigerian suspect, who is currently at large.
Sources disclosed that the killing triggered xenophobic reprisals targeting Nigerians in the area, resulting in the death of one Nigerian and injuries to seven others.
Troops of 3 Battalion (Mechanised) and 24 Task Force Brigade responded promptly to the situation to prevent further escalation along the border communities.
The injured victims have been evacuated to a general hospital in Ngala, Borno State, where they are currently receiving treatment.
Efforts are ongoing to restore calm, while authorities are working to track down the suspect and prevent further attacks on affected communities.
