Terrorists have again struck, raiding Tenibo community in Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara State, killing three mobile police officers. The incident occurred in the early hours of Saturday, causing panic among residents who have begun relocating to safer areas.
Recent Attacks on Security Personnel
This attack comes just eleven days after terrorists killed three soldiers in Kemanji community following a two-hour gun battle. The latest tragedy brings the number of security operatives killed in Kwara to six within two weeks.
Eyewitness Account
An eyewitness reported that the terrorists likely hid in the thick forest near Tenibo from Friday night until midnight, when they launched an attack on the security base, shooting three mobile police officers dead. Local sources said the terrorists overwhelmed the base and escaped back into the forest after the killing.
One local source stated, "Security officers now appear to be their latest targets because they always retreat to the thick forests after perpetrating their act." A staff member of Kaiama Local Government, who spoke on condition of anonymity, confirmed the development.
Community Plea for Government Action
A resident who declined to be named urged the government to clear the thick forests to prevent terrorists from using them as hideouts. "The thick forest where the terrorists hide is just about a kilometer from the community, making it easy for them to attack and return," he said.
He added, "I know the place is big, but the government can afford to clear the whole area, chase away the terrorists, and encourage residents to farm there. This would largely stop the killings. Government cannot just look while terrorists kill soldiers and police like chickens; they are also human beings like us. Something must be urgently done."
Local Government Response
Chairman of Kaiama Local Government, Alhaji Abubakar Danladi, confirmed the attack in an interview. "Yes, the development happened this morning; the terrorists killed three of our mobile police officers," he said. "The local government is trying its best. We are evolving a synergy with state and federal government to stop this kind of unfortunate development. It is not something we can do alone."
