Nigerian troops under Operation Hadin Kai (OPHK) have successfully repelled a fresh terrorist attack in Borno State while also apprehending two suspected informants linked to insurgent activities in Yobe State. These operations, though separate, were part of a coordinated counter-insurgency effort across the North-East region.
Borno Attack Repelled
In the Borno incident, troops stationed at a forward operating area came under attack when suspected Boko Haram and ISWAP fighters attempted a coordinated assault on a military position. According to security sources, the attackers approached under the cover of darkness, trying to overwhelm the location with sporadic gunfire and tactical maneuvers. However, the troops immediately returned fire and engaged the terrorists in a sustained exchange, forcing them to withdraw in disarray. The military response was described as swift and decisive, with reinforcement units quickly deployed to support the initial team. The superior firepower and tactical response prevented the attackers from breaching the defensive perimeter or causing casualties among personnel.
Following the failed attack, troops launched a clearance and pursuit operation in nearby routes and surrounding bush areas to intercept fleeing fighters and deny them escape corridors. This proactive measure aims to ensure that the terrorists cannot regroup and launch further attacks.
Arrest of Informants in Yobe
In a separate operation in Yobe State, troops acting on credible intelligence arrested two suspected informants believed to be aiding terrorist operations through surveillance and information-sharing activities. The suspects were reportedly picked up during intelligence-driven operations after being observed conducting suspicious movements around areas considered sensitive to ongoing military activities. Preliminary findings suggest that they may have been involved in relaying information on troop movements and vulnerable points to insurgent networks, although investigations are still ongoing.
Security officials confirmed that the suspects are currently in custody and undergoing interrogation to determine the extent of their involvement, possible collaborators, and operational links with armed groups operating in the region. The military emphasized that targeting informant networks remains a key strategy in weakening insurgent capabilities, as such individuals often play crucial roles in enabling attacks on both military formations and civilian communities.
Ongoing Counter-Insurgency Efforts
Military authorities have stressed that both operations are part of intensified efforts to disrupt terrorist logistics, intelligence networks, and operational planning structures across the North-East. They noted that these actions underscore the continued volatility in parts of Borno and Yobe States, even as security forces maintain sustained clearance operations aimed at restoring stability and preventing further attacks in the region. The successful repulsion of the attack and the arrest of informants demonstrate the military's commitment to neutralizing threats and protecting civilians.
