US Congressman Condemns Plateau Attack on Christians

United States Congressman Riley M. Moore has strongly condemned a recent terrorist attack in Plateau State, Nigeria, where extremists targeted Christians who had gathered for a mass burial of victims from a previous assault. In a statement posted on his official X account, Moore described the incident as part of an ongoing genocide against Christians in Nigeria's Middle Belt region.

Congressman Criticizes Nigerian Government's Response

Moore contrasted Nigeria's swift military intervention to quell a coup in the Republic of Benin with what he called the government's inaction at home, despite receiving early warnings about the attack. He accused the Nigerian authorities of failing to protect Christian citizens from radical Islamic terrorists.

“When I visited Nigeria, the government responded swiftly to quell a coup in Benin. Nigeria’s willingness to step in to stop a violent attack in another country, while they stand by as their own Christian citizens are brutalized makes these absolutely horrific scenes unfolding in Plateau State all the more unconscionable,” Moore stated.

He added: “Christians — who were gathered for a mass burial for those killed in a previous attack — were viciously murdered by radical Islamic terrorists. The Nigerian Government could root out the terrorism and stop the martyrdom of its own citizens. But, despite receiving early warnings of impending attacks, they are nowhere to be found as Christians are murdered for their faith, like lambs led to slaughter.”

Call for U.S. Action

The congressman declared that “enough is enough” and urged the administration of President Donald Trump to take forceful action under its new counterterrorism strategy to defend persecuted Christians. Moore, who has visited Nigeria, met with state officials, and submitted reports on the issue, emphasized the need for immediate intervention.

“I am grateful the Trump Administration specifically identified protecting Christians in Nigeria in the administration’s new Counterterrorism Strategy. Now, I am asking the Trump Administration to take forceful action to defend our innocent brothers and sisters in Christ in the Middle Belt of Nigeria, the epicenter of an ongoing Christian genocide,” Moore said.

The attack in Plateau State highlights the persistent security challenges facing Christians in parts of Nigeria, with Moore’s remarks drawing international attention to the plight of persecuted religious minorities.
