Oyome Retains Ikoyi Club Ladies Championship Crown
Evelyn Oyome once again emerged as the overall gross winner at the 2026 Ikoyi Club Ladies Championship, cementing her status as a dominant force in women's golf. Over the two-day tournament held at Ikoyi Club 1938 in Lagos, she posted a combined gross score of 170, carding 85 on both days to claim the title.
Pat Ozoemene finished as the first runner-up with a score of 174, while Ifeoma Obata secured the second runner-up position with 185. The championship, themed “Swing & Par-Tea in Colours,” attracted over 70 female golfers competing across various handicap categories in a stroke-play format.
Lady Captain of Ikoyi Club 1938 Golf Section, Annie Eimiakhena, highlighted that the competition aimed to identify the best female golfer in the club while fostering unity and friendship. “The championship occurs once a year. More or less, we’re trying to see who is the best lady golfer among us,” she said. She noted that participants had to meet specific qualification requirements, and guest players were invited to broaden participation. Beyond competition, the tournament promoted values of integrity and community service.
Oyome, a multiple-time winner, attributed her consistency to discipline, passion, and regular practice. “Golf is life,” she remarked. “I was introduced to golf because I’ve always been a sports person. When I started playing, I made sure I played with the men and professionals. I stayed focused and loved the game.”
In the overall gross category, other winners included Ronke Iyiola (sixth, 195), Pauline Onafowokan (fifth, 188), and Seline Hainsworth (fourth, 188 on countback). In the overall net category, Omowunmi Lakanu won with a combined score of 143, ahead of Yemi Afariogun (154) and Iveren Nongo (155).
Prizes included airline tickets, golf bags, travel bags, golf apparel, and electronic devices donated by sponsors such as United Nigeria Airlines, Flour Mills of Nigeria, Keystone Bank, and DigiPhone.
