FG to Immortalise Stephen Keshi on Sports Wall of Fame

Ten years after his death, the Federal Government has announced plans to immortalise late Nigerian football icon Stephen Keshi in recognition of his immense contributions to the growth and global image of Nigerian football. Keshi's name will be inscribed on the Sports Diplomacy Wall of Fame at the Nigerian Institute of International Affairs (NIIA), a move aimed at honouring his enduring legacy as one of the most influential figures in the nation's football history.

Popularly known as "The Big Boss," Keshi remains one of Nigeria's most celebrated football personalities. He captained the Super Eagles to victory at the 1994 Africa Cup of Nations and later guided the team to another continental triumph as head coach at the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations, becoming one of the few individuals in Africa to win the tournament both as a player and coach. The recognition comes a decade after his passing and highlights his role not only in sporting success but also in projecting Nigeria's image positively on the international stage through football.

Widely respected for his leadership, patriotism and commitment to developing Nigerian football, Keshi's induction into the Sports Diplomacy Wall of Fame further cements his place among the country's greatest sporting legends. The honour is expected to serve as a lasting tribute to a man whose achievements continue to inspire generations of footballers and sports enthusiasts across Nigeria and beyond.
