Nigeria's U17 female national team, the Flamingos, delivered a dominant performance on Saturday, thrashing Guinea 5-0 in the first leg of their second-round qualifier for the 2026 FIFA U17 Women's World Cup in Morocco. The match took place at the Stade Félix Houphouët-Boigny in Abidjan, where the Nigerian girls asserted their superiority from the opening whistle.
First-Half Dominance
Captain Harmony Chidi stole the show with a first-half hat-trick. She opened the scoring in the very first minute, then doubled the lead with a stunning long-range effort in the 12th minute. FC Robo Queens striker Oluwakemi Adegbuyi added the third goal with a low header at the far post as Guinea struggled to contain Nigeria's attacking onslaught. Chidi completed her hat-trick six minutes before halftime, calmly rolling the ball under the goalkeeper after latching onto a defence-splitting pass. Nigeria went into the break with a comfortable 4-0 advantage.
Second-Half Consolidation
Mary Dunstan added the fifth goal in the second half to seal a comprehensive victory. The result gave newly appointed coach Akeem Busari a memorable start to his tenure. The return leg is scheduled for May 30 at the Remo Stars Stadium in Ikenne, Ogun State, with the Flamingos firmly in control of the tie.
