Manchester United agree £50m deal for Chelsea's Andrey Santos
Manchester United have reached an agreement with Chelsea to sign Brazilian midfielder Andrey Santos for a total package worth £50 million. The deal comprises a guaranteed £48 million upfront payment, with an additional £2 million in performance-related add-ons. Chelsea have also secured a 10 per cent sell-on clause as part of the transfer.
Medical and personal terms
Santos is now preparing to undergo a medical examination with Manchester United. Personal terms are expected to be finalized shortly, with the 22-year-old keen on making the move to Old Trafford.
Santos' journey to Manchester United
The Brazil international initially joined Chelsea from Vasco da Gama in a deal worth around £20 million. He has since gained experience on loan at Nottingham Forest in the Premier League and at Strasbourg, Chelsea's sister club in France. Last season, Santos made 43 appearances for Chelsea in all competitions, scoring three goals and providing four assists.
United's midfield overhaul
Manchester United turned to Santos after missing out on two other midfield targets. Elliot Anderson moved from Nottingham Forest to Manchester City for a staggering £116 million, while Tottenham Hotspur signed Mateus Fernandes from West Ham United for £85 million. United are also expected to complete a move for another Brazilian midfielder, Ederson, who is set to join from Serie A side Atalanta.
Impact on Chelsea and United
The sale provides Chelsea with a significant financial boost, while Manchester United add a versatile midfielder to their squad. Santos' arrival, along with the potential signing of Ederson, signals a major rebuild of United's midfield under manager Erik ten Hag.
