Manchester United are on the verge of appointing Michael Carrick as their permanent head coach after offering him a two-year contract. The 44-year-old, whose current deal was due to expire at the end of the season, is expected to sign a two-year agreement with an option for a third year.
Contract Talks Underway
Negotiations are also progressing with Carrick's coaching staff, including Steve Holland, Jonathan Woodgate, Jonny Evans, and Travis Binnion, all of whom are anticipated to sign new contracts to remain at Old Trafford. Carrick has overseen 10 wins in his 15 Premier League matches in charge, prompting the club's football leadership team to recommend his permanent appointment this week.
Carrick's Comments
Speaking on Friday, Carrick hinted that his future would become clear "pretty soon." He expressed pride in his role at the club, stating, "Immensely proud to have come back and been a part of it, as a supporter and ex-player. To make a big step, and back in the Champions League is good, we’re happy with the work we’ve done so far."
Chief executive Omar Berrada and director of football Jason Wilcox have both recognized Carrick's achievements and are keen to retain him. Regardless of the contract status, Carrick plans to address the supporters after Sunday's match, emphasizing the importance of the fans: "The supporters are a massive part of this club. We thank them for the season and the support, the last four months for me personally."
