Michael Leads Semifinalists at CBN Tennis Championships

The 47th Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Senior Tennis Championship has reached the semifinal stage, with defending champion Emmanuel Michael, Abua Canise, Yusuf Abubakar, and Jimoh Joseph all securing their spots in the men's singles semifinals. The matches are scheduled to take place today at the MKO Abiola Stadium in Abuja.

Men's Singles Semifinals

In the men's singles category, the top seed, Abua Canice, will face Yusuf Abubakar in the opening semifinal match. Following that, the defending champion, Emmanuel Michael, who is seeded third, will compete against the unseeded Jimoh Joseph in the second semifinal. The winners of these two matches will go head-to-head in the final tomorrow for the championship title.

Women's Singles Semifinals

In the women's singles division, the top seed, Mohammed Khadijat, is set to take on Ogunjobi Success in the first semifinal. The second semifinal will feature the second seed, Emmanuel Essien Bright, against the fifth seed, Bassey Etoro. Khadijat secured her place in the semifinals by defeating Godwin Favour with a score of 2-0 (6-0, 6-1), while Ogunjobi Success advanced by beating Udofia Mary 2-0 (6-2, 6-0).

Wheelchair Categories

In the men's singles wheelchair category, Ajani Idowu defeated Odunuga Pelumi to reach the semifinals. In the women's singles wheelchair division, the defending champion, Usoh Andrea, has been drawn alongside the top seed, Nwaozuzu Chituru.

Doubles Events

The men's and women's doubles events have also progressed to the semifinal stage. Notable pairings in the men's doubles include John David and Jimoh Joseph, Akagha Samuel and Uwandu Charles, as well as Micheal Emmanuel and Sylvanus Ajano.

Player Withdrawal

It is worth noting that tournament seed number two, Adeleye Daniel, who had qualified for yesterday's semifinals, has withdrawn from the championship to participate in an international competition in Italy.
