Niger Governor Appoints Abubakar Kuso as Tornadoes Chairman

Governor Mohammed Bago of Niger State has appointed Abubakar Kuso as the new chairman of the management committee of Niger Tornadoes Football Club, a Nigeria Premier Football League side. The announcement, made on Saturday, takes immediate effect, according to a statement issued by the governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Bologi Ibrahim.

Governor Expresses Confidence in New Chairman

Mr Bago, popularly known as the “Farmer Governor,” expressed confidence in Mr Kuso’s ability to reposition the Minna-based club through what he described as competent and proactive leadership. The governor said he was optimistic that the new chairman would deploy his experience to return the club to its “glory days.”

He also urged members of the club’s management team to support the new chairman and work collectively towards the progress and success of the team.

Succession and Background

Mr Kuso succeeds Ibrahim Dada, who stepped down from the position to contest the Bosso/Paikoro Federal Constituency seat in the House of Representatives. Beyond football administration, Mr Kuso serves as Executive Director of Planning and Design at the Upper Niger River Basin Development Authority, where he oversees the planning and design of development projects across Niger, Kaduna and the Federal Capital Territory.

Club Performance and Outlook

The appointment comes as Niger Tornadoes continue efforts to strengthen their administrative structure and improve the club’s fortunes in domestic football. Niger Tornadoes finished 14th in the Nigeria Premier Football League last season and will be hoping for a better outing in the 2026/27 season.
