Football legends are set to return to Nigeria for a noble cause. The Motherland Heritage Cup (MHC) 2026 will bring together iconic players from Africa and the diaspora for a charity event. Scheduled to take place in four Nigerian cities, including Lagos, the tournament aims to reconnect Africans worldwide through identity and heritage.

Star-Studded Lineup

The event will feature two teams captained by Austin Jay-Jay Okocha and Emmanuel Adebayor. Other confirmed participants include Didier Drogba, Daniel Amokachi, El Hadji Diouf, Anthony Baffoe, Yaya Touré, Samuel Eto'o, Mikel Obi, and Joseph Yobo. These legends will showcase their skills while supporting charitable causes.

High-Profile Support

The MHC 2026 has garnered support from prominent figures. President Bola Tinubu serves as grand patron, with Prince Tajudeen Olusi as life patron. Senator Godswill Akpabio and Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu are also patrons. Former Super Eagles coach Samson Siasia, Daniel Amokachi, and Nigeria National League chairman George Aluo were unveiled as ambassadors, alongside co-founder Jim Iyke and Head of Global Culture and Entertainment Larry Gaaga.

Speaking at the event, Chief Strategy Officer Oluwatobi Fakayode emphasized the transformative power of football. He stated that the sport can change lives, uplift communities, and elevate nations. The Motherland Heritage Cup is an extension of the successful Motherland Festival & Expo 2025, which gathered Africans and the global diaspora in Lagos.

The next major activity is a Charity Exhibition Match on August 8, 2026, featuring African and Afro-diaspora football legends playing for a charitable cause. This match will mirror the spirit of the main tournament.
