The family of late Nigerian football legend High Chief Adegboye Onigbinde has announced that the former Super Eagles coach will be buried on June 26 in Modakeke, Osun State. The burial and thanksgiving ceremonies were detailed yesterday, with rites beginning on June 23, 2026, featuring a Service of Songs in Ibadan, Oyo State.
Burial Ceremonies Schedule
A novelty football match between legends from Oyo and Osun States will take place at Modakeke Islamic Grammar School, followed by another Service of Songs at his residence in Modakeke. The ceremonies will conclude on Friday, June 26, with a thanksgiving and outing service at St. Stephen Cathedral, Itaasin Street, Modakeke, along with a reception at Modakeke event centre on Ondo Road.
Legacy of Onigbinde
Onigbinde, who died at age 88, was renowned for his discipline-driven coaching philosophy and commitment to long-term football development. Known as "The Teacher," he earned widespread respect for his principled approach to the game and his role in advancing indigenous coaching in Nigeria.
