Osimhen brace secures Galatasaray fourth straight Turkish title

With the 2025/26 season gradually coming to an end, some Nigerian football stars saw action across Europe over the weekend, producing a mix of notable performances. While some scored and also won silverware, especially Victor Osimhen to help Galatasaray win its fourth consecutive Turkish Super Lig title, a few others also provided assists for their respective clubs.

Turkey

Victor Osimhen (Galatasaray)

Victor Osimhen scored twice as Galatasaray won its fourth Turkish Super Lig title in a row and 26th overall following a thrilling 4-2 comeback triumph over Antalyaspor at RAMS Park on Saturday. The Nigerian striker netted the equaliser from the penalty spot before scoring the decisive goal two minutes from time to seal the championship for the Lions. This marks Osimhen's second consecutive Super Lig title since joining Galatasaray initially on loan in the 2024 summer transfer window before making the move permanent last year. The Super Eagles talisman has made a total of 52 Super Lig appearances in the colours of the Lions from which he has found the back of the net 40 times.

England

Alex Iwobi, Calvin Bassey, Samuel Chukwueze (Fulham)

Calvin Bassey saw full action while Samuel Chukwueze was substituted on Saturday when Fulham's hopes of playing in Europe next season evaporated into thin air courtesy of a 1-0 defeat to Bournemouth in a Premier League contest at Craven Cottage. Chukwueze failed to come up with his bag of tricks until the Nigerian international winger was yanked off for Kevin in the 62nd minute of action. Alex Iwobi is still recovering from the hamstring injury he sustained during Fulham's 0-0 draw with Brentford in a Premier League London derby at the Gtech Community Stadium three weeks ago.

Taiwo Awoniyi, Ola Aina (Nottingham Forest)

Taiwo Awoniyi was in action on Saturday when Nottingham Forest retained its Premier League status courtesy of a 1-1 draw with Newcastle United at the City Ground. The Nigerian striker who netted a brace in last Monday's 3-1 win over Chelsea at Stamford Bridge came off for Chris Wood in the 73rd minute but compatriot Ola Aina missed Forest's draw with Newcastle due to a knock.

Tolu Arokodare (Wolverhampton Wanderers)

Tolu Arokodare was in action for relegated Wolverhampton Wanderers which extended its winless away run in the Premier League to 20 matches after losing 3-0 to Brighton & Hove Albion at the Amex Stadium on Saturday. The Nigerian forward who has found it very difficult adjusting to life at Wolves since joining from KRC Genk of Belgium last year's summer was an 89th minute substitute for Joao Gomes.

Spain

Akor Adams, Chidera Ejuke (Sevilla)

Akor Adams emerged as the hero on Saturday when he scored the winning goal to help Sevilla steer clear of relegation by coming from behind to defeat Espanyol 2-1 in a La Liga fixture. Adams did not even start the game and only came on to replace Ruben Vargas in the 75th minute before the Super Eagles forward scored the winner in the 91st minute after being set up by legendary Chilean forward, Alexis Sanchez. Chidera Ejuke also played against Espanyol, with the Nigerian international winger starting the game while he also saw full action.

Umar Sadiq (Valencia)

Umar Sadiq played for only 20 minutes but those were enough to see him emerge as the match winner for Valencia who went away to defeat Athletic Bilbao 1-0 on Sunday to keep their Spanish La Liga survival hopes alive. The lanky Super Eagles striker came off the bench in the 70th minute, replacing Hugo Duro and made an immediate impact, finding the net only two minutes later courtesy of an assist from Luis Rioja. There was still time left for Sadiq to get himself a yellow card as he was booked in the 88th minute. He has, however, stepped up at a crucial stage of the season, scoring three times in his last four La Liga appearances for Valencia.

Germany

Nathan Tella (Bayer Leverkusen)

Bayer Leverkusen missed Nathan Tella's attacking prowess on Saturday when the club's Champions League hopes suffered a major blow following a 3-1 defeat to VFB Stuttgart in a German Bundesliga match. Having become a regular since returning from injury, the Super Eagles winger who has scored a goal and also contributed three assists in his last five Bundesliga appearances for Leverkusen missed the game against Stuttgart due to a muscle problem. Despite Tella seeing his campaign heavily disrupted by injuries, with the 26-year-old missing the opening seven matches of the season due to a knee bruise and also missing another nine games with a foot injury as well as muscle problem, he has scored one goal and made six assists in 17 Bundesliga appearances this season.

Italy

Maduka Okoye, Kingsley Ehizibue (Udinese)

Super Eagles goalkeeper Maduka Okoye kept his 10th clean sheet of the season on Saturday to help Udinese beat Cagliari 2-0 in a Serie A encounter at the Unipol Domus. Okoye was once again impressive in goal, making three vital saves from Cagliari's five shots on target to extend his clean sheet run. The Nigerian goalkeeper has now equaled his career-best tally of 10 clean sheets, a feat he achieved in the 2020/21 season during his stint with Sparta Rotterdam in the Dutch Eredivisie. As for Kingsley Ehizibue against Cagliari, the Nigerian defender was issued a yellow card in the 44th minute before coming off for Juan Arizala in the 78th minute.

David Okereke (Cremonese); Ebenezer Akinsanmiro, Rafiu Durosinmi (Pisa)

David Okereke scored for the second time in the 2025/26 Serie A season on Sunday to help Cremonese keep its survival hopes alive courtesy of a crucial 3-0 thrashing of already relegated Pisa who had two players sent off. Okereke was introduced for Jari Vandeputte in the 72nd minute and the 28-year-old made a quick impact, scoring in the 86th minute, making it the Nigerian striker's second goal in his last six Serie A matches as Cremonese also ended a five-game winless run. As for Ebenezer Akinsanmiro and Rafiu Durosinmi who suffered relegation from the Italian Serie A last weekend following Pisa's 2-1 defeat against Lecce, it was only the former who featured against Cremonese. Akinsanmiro who joined Pisa on loan from Inter Milan at the start of the season came off for Gabriele Piccinini in the 72nd minute while Durosinmi who arrived from Viktoria Plzen during the January transfer window was an unused substitute.

France

Tochukwu Nnadi (Olympique Marseille)

Nigerian defender Tochukwu Nnadi picked up a yellow card in the 59th minute of Sunday's French Ligue 1 game which saw Olympique Marseille retain its hopes of playing in next season's UEFA Europa Conference League by traveling away to defeat Le Havre.
