President Federation Cup Semifinals: El Kanemi, Wikki Tourists Battle for Final
President Federation Cup Semifinals: El Kanemi vs Wikki Tourists

The President Federation Cup semifinals are set to take place today, with former champions El Kanemi Warriors and Wikki Tourists vying for a spot in the final. The matches will be held at the Muhammadu Dikko Stadium in Katsina and the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in Benin City.

El Kanemi Warriors vs Wikki Tourists

El Kanemi Warriors, based in Borno State, have a rich history in the competition, winning the trophy in 1991 and 1992. They defeated Kano Pillars 3-2 in the 1991 final and edged Stationery Stores 1-0 the following year. The team also claimed the title two years ago, thanks to midfielder Nasiru Salihu's heroics in a victory over Abia Warriors at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena in Lagos.

Wikki Tourists' only previous triumph came in 1998, when they defeated Plateau United on penalties after a goalless draw at the Rancher's Bees Stadium in Kaduna. Plateau United later won their sole title in 1999 by beating Iwuanyanwu Nationale 1-0 at the National Stadium in Lagos.

Both teams are determined to reach the final. Wikki Tourists have eliminated Jigawa Golden Stars Jnr, Bayelsa United, Kada Warriors, and Flight FC. El Kanemi Warriors have overcome Krusaders FC, Akwa United, Bendel Insurance, and Sokoto United.

Ikorodu City vs Nasarawa United

The second semifinal pits 2021 runners-up Nasarawa United against Ikorodu City. Ikorodu City narrowly missed the final last year, losing on penalties to Abakaliki FC after a goalless draw. This season, they retained their Nigeria Premier Football League status and came close to earning a continental ticket, losing to Shooting Stars of Ibadan on the final day.

The team's management has emphasized their determination to win the President Federation Cup, which would also secure a continental berth. Nasarawa United, who lost the 2021 final to Bayelsa United on penalties at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium, return to that venue with hopes of a different outcome.

Nasarawa United have advanced past Westgate FC, Ejigbo City, Rivers United, and Plateau United. Ikorodu City have defeated Gaa Akanbi, Jigawa Golden Stars, Enyimba FC, and Barau FC.
