French Ligue 1 side Stade Rennais have reportedly entered the race to sign Nigerian teenage sensation Zadok Yohanna, who has already attracted interest from Real Madrid and other European powerhouses.
Rennes Join Growing Transfer Battle
The 18-year-old AIK winger has enjoyed a breakthrough campaign in Sweden, and his performances have caught the attention of scouts across Europe. According to Swedish publication Expressen, Rennes are now positioning themselves strongly to secure the Nigerian's signature.
Rennes have built a reputation for developing young talents before selling them for significant profits, and they view Yohanna as a promising long-term investment. However, competition for the winger is fierce, with Real Madrid, Bayern Munich, Borussia Dortmund, RB Leipzig, Tottenham Hotspur, and Chelsea all previously linked.
Real Madrid's Interest Highlights Yohanna's Potential
Real Madrid's reported interest underscores how highly Yohanna is rated. The Spanish giants have focused on recruiting elite young prospects globally, successfully developing talents like Vinicius Junior, Rodrygo, and Endrick.
Meanwhile, Premier League clubs Tottenham and Chelsea are monitoring the teenager, while Bundesliga sides Bayern Munich, Borussia Dortmund, and RB Leipzig are also in the hunt. Dortmund and Leipzig are particularly known for nurturing young attacking talents.
Yohanna's Breakthrough Season in Sweden
Yohanna joined AIK in 2025 from Ikon Allah Football Academy in Nigeria. Despite arriving in Europe only last year, he has quickly adapted and forced his way into the senior team. In seven league appearances this season, he has registered two goals and two assists, showcasing his pace, dribbling, and creativity.
AIK are in a strong negotiating position as Yohanna remains under contract until 2029, potentially sparking a bidding war among interested clubs.
Injury Scare Does Not Derail Progress
Yohanna recently suffered a minor thigh injury during AIK's 4-2 defeat to Djurgårdens IF. The club confirmed he was undergoing rehabilitation, but the winger reassured fans it was not serious. "I felt a bit of pain, but it's not a serious injury," he said. "They took me off because they didn't want to risk anything."
AIK are managing his fitness carefully to avoid aggravating the problem during this crucial stage of his development.
Super Eagles Opportunity Could Arrive Soon
Legit.ng previously reported that Super Eagles coach Eric Chelle plans to use the upcoming Unity Cup to assess foreign-based Nigerian talents who have yet to make their senior debuts. Chelle aims to expand the national team pool by monitoring eligible players across Europe.
