Supercomputer Predicts Ghana vs Panama 2026 World Cup

Opta's supercomputer has predicted the outcome of the 2026 FIFA World Cup Group L match between Ghana and Panama. The Black Stars will face the Central American nation at BMO Field in Toronto, Canada. This encounter marks the second group-stage match for both teams.

Match Preview

Ghana is the last African nation to debut at this World Cup, following South Africa's opening match against Mexico. The Black Stars arrived in Toronto without midfielder Thomas Partey, who was denied entry into Canada due to an ongoing sexual assault charge in England. Panama is appearing in its second World Cup, having first qualified in 2018, while Ghana is competing for the fifth time.

Supercomputer Prediction

According to The Analyst, Opta's supercomputer ran 25,000 simulations of the match. Ghana won in 45.1% of simulations, Panama won in 28.1%, and a draw occurred 26.8% of the time. Opta noted that this game represents both teams' best chance to earn points, with England and Croatia also in Group L. The two sides have no prior competitive or friendly history.

Ghana's Strategy

Head coach Carlos Queiroz, who took over after Otto Addo's dismissal in March, is focused on a winning start. The 73-year-old is managing at his sixth World Cup and admitted the tournament still feels special. "The final outcome of football is always a mystery. There is no formula, and that is why it's still so special after all these years," Queiroz said via CAF. He analyzed Panama's weaknesses and believes Ghana's quality can exploit them. "We're strong, and we'll showcase our strengths in the game. Panama is a well-organised team, and we hold them in high regard because they are competitive. We have good solutions to their strengths and will try to expose the weaknesses they have," he added.

Ghana will return to the United States for remaining group games against England and Croatia, where Thomas Partey will be available.

Partey Update

Queiroz previously dismissed questions about Partey, stating no update was available shortly before the appeal failed.
