Ted Lasso Actor Cristo Fernández Signs for US Football Club

Mexican actor Cristo Fernández, widely recognized for his role as Dani Rojas in the hit Apple TV+ series Ted Lasso, has signed a professional contract with El Paso Locomotive FC of the USL Championship. The 35-year-old joins the American second-tier side after a two-month trial period.

From Acting to Football

Fernández, who played the cheerful footballer Dani Rojas from 2020 to 2023, will now take on a real-life role as a forward for the Texas-based club. He previously played youth football in his hometown of Guadalajara but stepped away from the sport at age 15 due to a knee injury. After moving to London, he landed the role in Ted Lasso, which won numerous awards over its three-season run.

Dreaming Again

"Football has always been a huge part of my life and identity, and no matter where life has taken me, the dream of competing professionally never truly left my heart," Fernández said. He also trialed with the second team of Major League Soccer side Chicago Fire earlier this year. "I'm incredibly grateful to El Paso Locomotive FC – the club, coaches, staff, and especially my teammates – for opening the doors and giving me the opportunity to compete from day one."

Fernández added: "This journey back to professional soccer is about believing in yourself, taking risks, and continuing to chase your dreams no matter how unexpected the path may be. Maybe I'm just a crazy man with crazy dreams... so being here with the 'Locos' actually makes perfect sense."

Coach's Praise

Locomotive head coach Junior Gonzalez welcomed the signing, stating: "Cristo is a great addition to our roster, adding another attacking threat to our forward line."
