President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has extended his congratulations to Rangers International FC following their historic triumph in the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL), securing the title for a record ninth time.
The President lauded the managers, players, and supporters of the Enugu-based club for their outstanding performance throughout the season, which saw them finish at the top of the standings with 68 points from 38 matches, edging out closest rivals Rivers United.
A Glorious History Recalled
Tinubu reminisced about Rangers' remarkable achievements during the 1970s and 1980s, when the club dominated domestic competitions, winning multiple league and FA Cup titles. He highlighted their 1975 run to the finals of the African Cup of Champions Clubs and their 1977 victory in the African Cup Winners' Cup.
“I must also congratulate Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State on this victory. It is a clear testament to his administration's investments in youth and sports development in the state. I commend him,” the President stated.
“Rangers, being one of Nigeria's oldest clubs, have nurtured some of the nation's finest football talents, who have gone on to excel on the global stage. I am immensely proud of their accomplishment,” Tinubu added.
Recognition for Rivers United
President Tinubu also acknowledged Rivers United for their excellent performance throughout the tournament and for displaying commendable sportsmanship. He wished both Rangers International FC and Rivers United the best as they prepare to represent Nigeria in the upcoming CAF Champions League season.
