Trump to Attend 2026 World Cup Final, Co-Present Trophy

FIFA President Gianni Infantino has confirmed that U.S. President Donald Trump will attend the FIFA World Cup 2026 final on July 19 at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey. Infantino stated that both of them will watch the match together and jointly present the trophy to the winning team.

Infantino Highlights Close Relationship with Trump

Infantino noted his close relationship with Trump and said they work closely together during his current mandate. The FIFA chief stated that organizing the World Cup in the U.S. would have been impossible without Trump's direct engagement and assistance.

"We will be together with the president [Trump] enjoying the final and handing the trophy to the winner, of course, together," Infantino told Fox & Friends. "We are together all the time."

Controversy from Previous Trophy Presentation

The decision to co-present the trophy follows controversy surrounding the presentation of the FIFA Club World Cup to Chelsea after their victory over Paris Saint-Germain in New Jersey last summer. President Trump was allowed to present the trophy to Chelsea captain Reece James, but his failure to leave the stage led to him taking part in the team celebrations alongside bemused players.

Although recent World Cups have been handed to the victors by Infantino and his predecessor as FIFA president, Sepp Blatter, heads of state have previously presented the World Cup trophy.
