OPay Launches 7 Savings Festival to Boost Financial Habits in Nigeria
OPay 7 Savings Festival: 27% Interest, N77m Pool

OPay, a leading Nigerian fintech company, has unveiled the 7 Savings Festival, a nationwide savings initiative powered by its digital savings solution, OWealth. The 49-day campaign, running from 10 August to 27 September 2026, aims to make disciplined saving simple, rewarding, and accessible for millions of Nigerians, offering an attractive interest rate of 27% per annum and a share of a ₦77 million additional interest pool.

Addressing the Savings Challenge in Nigeria

As rising living costs continue to reshape household spending, many Nigerians find it difficult to maintain consistent saving habits. The festival is designed to tackle this by rewarding discipline rather than one-off deposits. Participants can create a Target Savings plan ranging from ₦77,000 to ₦777,000, and those who save consistently without early withdrawal enjoy the full benefits.

The initiative reflects a broader shift in Nigeria's digital financial services industry, from merely facilitating payments to helping customers build stronger financial habits. According to OPay, the campaign is part of its commitment to supporting financial well-being and contributing to more financially resilient households and a stronger economy.

How the Festival Works

To participate, customers simply open or log in to the OPay app, go to the 7 Savings Festival page, and create a Target Savings plan between ₦77,000 and ₦777,000. By saving consistently towards their goals, they earn 27% interest per annum, qualify for daily interest, and become eligible for a share of the ₦77 million additional interest pool.

New Target Savings plans can be created until 20 September 2026, with final interest earnings and distributions from the pool scheduled for 27 September 2026. The festival provides clear visibility into savings goals, progress, and rewards throughout the campaign, reinforcing transparency and accountability.

Leadership Perspective on the Initiative

Elizabeth Wang, Chief Commercial Officer at OPay, commented: "The OPay 7 Savings Festival reflects our commitment to helping Nigerians build stronger financial habits. By saving consistently towards their goals, customers can enjoy rewarding benefits, including an interest rate of 27% per annum, while building financial confidence on a platform they can trust."

Wang's remarks underscore the importance of trust in digital financial services, as more Nigerians seek products that not only enable transactions but also help them save and grow their money with confidence.
