The Federal Government has unveiled a National Agricultural Mechanisation Policy, with a key target of establishing a tractor assembly plant capable of producing 4,000 units annually. The policy is designed to transform Nigeria's agricultural sector by increasing mechanisation and reducing reliance on manual farming methods.

According to the Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Senator Abubakar Kyari, the policy aims to drive agricultural modernisation and enhance food security across the country. He stated that the tractor plant would be a central pillar of the initiative, providing affordable and accessible machinery to farmers.
The policy also outlines plans for the establishment of mechanisation service centres in various agricultural zones, which will offer hiring services for tractors and other equipment to smallholder farmers. This is expected to lower the cost of mechanisation and improve efficiency.
