Dangote Refinery Sells Petrol at N739/Litre Through MRS Stations Nationwide
Dangote Refinery Petrol Sales Start at N739/Litre

In a significant move set to reshape Nigeria's fuel market, the Dangote Petroleum Refinery has officially commenced the nationwide sale of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), commonly known as petrol, at a pump price of N739 per litre. This development, announced on Sunday, December 22, 2025, is being executed through a partnership with MRS Oil Nigeria Plc, granting access to its network of over 2,000 filling stations across the country.

Festive Season Relief and Market Stabilization

The timing of this price point is particularly strategic, targeting the festive season which has historically been plagued by fuel scarcity and sharp price increases. Dangote Refinery has positioned itself as a market stabilizer, directly intervening to offer relief to consumers. To prevent seasonal shortages, the refinery has committed to a guaranteed daily supply of 50 million litres of petrol throughout the holiday period.

In an official statement, the refinery outlined its core objective: to ensure a consistent flow of high-quality petroleum products at affordable rates for Nigerians. This initiative is also aimed at bolstering economic stability and reducing the nation's long-standing dependence on imported fuel.

A Call for Compliance and Consumer Vigilance

The refinery publicly commended MRS and other marketers who have promptly reflected the new reduced price at their pumps, describing their actions as patriotic and supportive of national economic recovery. It issued a strong call to other retailers to follow this example.

Furthermore, the statement included a stern warning against any attempts by unscrupulous operators to create artificial scarcity or manipulate supply to undermine the price reduction. Dangote Refinery urged regulatory authorities to remain vigilant and take decisive action against such practices.

Empowering consumers, the refinery advised the public to resist buying petrol at inflated prices. It provided a dedicated hotline, 0800 123 5264, for Nigerians to report any MRS station found selling above the approved rate of N739 per litre.

Ripple Effects in the Broader Market

This move by the Dangote Refinery has already triggered a competitive response in the downstream sector. Reports indicate that the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) recently adjusted its pump price downward to N840 per litre in Lagos, a reduction from N875. This adjustment is widely seen as a direct reaction to the increased market competition spurred by Dangote Refinery's earlier reduction of its gantry price to N699 per litre for marketers.

The entry of Dangote Refinery as a major domestic supplier is poised to bring a new dynamic to Nigeria's petroleum industry, promising more stable pricing and reliable availability of petrol for millions of consumers and businesses.
