10 FG Funding Programmes Nigerians Can Access in 2026
10 FG Funding Programmes for Nigerians in 2026

The Federal Government of Nigeria, through its agencies, operates several intervention funds, loans, grants, and financing programmes designed to provide financial support to students, entrepreneurs, farmers, and small business owners. Financial expert Osas Igho has identified ten such schemes that Nigerians can leverage in 2026 to scale their businesses without relying on traditional bank loans.

Key Federal Funding Programmes for 2026

The programmes range from direct grants to affordable loans, equity-free funding, training, and business advisory support. The Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND), established under the Student Loans (Access to Higher Education) Act 2024, provides financial support to eligible tertiary institution students, covering approved educational costs. The Bank of Industry (BOI) offers the Guaranteed Loans for Women programme, with a ₦10 billion fund, providing affordable financing, mentorship, and capacity-building for women-owned businesses.

Other schemes include the Rural Area Programme on Investment for Development (RAPID), which targets nano, micro, and small businesses in rural communities, combining financial support with business advisory services. The BOI/NCDMB intervention funds support businesses in the oil and gas value chain, strengthening local content. The BOI-NYSC entrepreneurship programme, with a ₦2 billion fund, helps corps members establish sustainable nano and micro businesses.

Youth and Agricultural Funding Opportunities

The Nigeria Youth Investment Fund (NYIF) addresses financing gaps for young entrepreneurs, supporting youth-owned businesses through financing and entrepreneurship development. The Youth Economic Intervention and De-Radicalisation Programme (YEIDEP) combines funding with training and mentorship, focusing on entrepreneurship and agriculture. Federal agricultural intervention programmes provide financing, grants, inputs, and support to farmers, cooperatives, and agribusinesses.

The Student Venture Capital Grant (S-VCG) targets students building innovative businesses, offering equity-free funding to promising ventures. According to Adebayo Onigbanjo, National Coordinator of the Special Programme Operations and Implementation Unit at the Federal Ministry of Education, the second round of the S-VCG will distribute up to ₦50 million each to 50 student entrepreneurs running science and technology-based businesses.

Application Process and Verification

Osas Igho, speaking to Legit.ng, emphasized that "there are actually several grants and opportunities Nigerians can leverage to scale their businesses rather than seeking bank loans." However, applicants should note that ongoing programmes may not always have open applications; some operate in cohorts or periodic windows. The most important step is to verify eligibility, application status, and official requirements directly through the relevant government agency before applying.

BOI's central iProgrammes platform currently provides information on several active intervention funds and their application channels. For Nigerians struggling to access commercial loans, these federal intervention programmes offer an alternative route to funding, covering students, women entrepreneurs, young people, NYSC members, rural businesses, farmers, and oil and gas companies. The federal government opened applications for the second round of the Student Venture Capital Grant on September 4, 2026, as announced by Onigbanjo at a news conference in Abuja.
