The Federal Government has significantly expanded a special training initiative aimed at educating content creators on Nigeria's new tax laws. This move comes in response to what officials describe as an overwhelming level of interest from the digital creator community.
Increased Slots and Key Requirements
Originally planned for just 20 participants, the programme will now accommodate 50 content creators. The announcement was made by Taiwo Oyedele, Chairman of the Presidential Committee on Fiscal Policy and Tax Reform, via a message on the social media platform X on Sunday, December 4, 2025.
To qualify for selection, applicants must meet specific criteria set by the committee. The most prominent requirement is a minimum combined followership of 10,000 across major social media platforms, including Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, X, LinkedIn, and YouTube.
Beyond audience size, selected creators must commit to full participation in the training sessions. They are also required to pledge accuracy in any tax education content they later produce, including a willingness to seek clarification from authorities when needed.
Application Process and Deadline
Interested and eligible content creators are urged to act quickly. The application window is short, with the deadline for submissions set for Monday, December 8, 2025.
Applications are to be made through a dedicated online form. The selection process will consider the applicant's follower count among other factors, ultimately bringing the total number of programme participants to fifty.
Following the training, those selected will gain a significant advantage: direct access to the committee chairman and key members for fact-checking and clarification before publishing educational content. This access is designed to ensure the information shared with the public is credible and fosters trust.
Context and Broader Tax Reforms
This training initiative is part of a broader push by the Federal Government to ensure clear and accurate public understanding of upcoming fiscal changes. The new tax laws are scheduled to take effect in January 2026.
Mr. Oyedele has previously clarified that the reforms are designed to reduce, not increase, the tax burden for the vast majority of Nigerians. He stated that individuals in the bottom 98% of income earners will pay less or no tax, and Value Added Tax (VAT) will be removed from essential items like food, education, and healthcare.
The committee is encouraging creators to seize this opportunity, framing it as a chance to actively shape public discourse. In their call, they stated: “Don’t just watch history unfold. Participate, learn, upskill, and contribute.” An updated list of the top content creators who complete the programme is expected to be published afterwards.
