Nigerian reality television sensation Mercy Eke has sparked national conversation with her controversial views on single motherhood, declaring that societal stigma primarily targets women without financial or social advantages.
Mercy Eke's Bold Stance on Single Motherhood
During a recent podcast interview that has since gone viral, the Big Brother Naija Season 4 winner made her position clear about having children outside marriage. The Pepper Dem Gang champion stated that while she doesn't actively plan to become pregnant before marriage, she would embrace the situation if it occurred naturally.
"I won't go the extra miles to get pregnant out of wedlock. But if it just happens, I would leave it and have my baby," Mercy Eke revealed during the candid discussion. "I want three children: two female kids and one boy or three girls. I love female children."
The Privilege Argument: Successful Women Face Less Judgment
The reality star presented a compelling argument about how society treats single mothers differently based on their economic status and social standing. According to Eke, women who have achieved success in their careers and financial independence face significantly less criticism for choosing single motherhood.
"What most people don't know is that the stigma of being a single mother only applies to women who don't have things going for them," she asserted confidently. "The women [single mothers] who are shattering glasses, men are begging them for marriage."
Mercy further emphasized that her relationship prospects wouldn't suffer even if she had children before marriage, stating: "I can get married tomorrow if I want to. But what I want in a man, I have not seen. It's not like there is no suitor. There are plenty... So, even if I have a baby, I would still see a man."
Controversy and Allegations Surrounding the Star
The entertainment personality's comments come amid other controversies in her personal life. Movie producer Ajemba Stanley Chibueze, known professionally as Stanley Ontop, recently made disturbing allegations about the reality star on his Instagram page.
Stanley claimed that Mercy Eke is allegedly involved with a married man from Delta State, suggesting that her recent Lamborghini purchase has caused marital problems for the unidentified man. According to his posts, the man's wife is reportedly preparing to move out so the BBNaija star can allegedly move in.
These allegations follow previous criticism from media personality Radiogad, who had earlier made claims about who purchased the luxury vehicle for Mercy Eke. The reality star had previously made headlines in 2023 when her pastor dedicated the Lamborghini in a viral ceremony.
Despite the controversies, Mercy Eke continues to maintain her position as one of Nigeria's most outspoken and successful reality television personalities, using her platform to challenge traditional norms and advocate for women's autonomy in reproductive choices.
