Ahmed Isah Withdraws N500K Gift After Baba Mohbad's $26K Donation Revealed
Radio Host Withdraws N500K After Baba Mohbad's $26K Donation

Nigerian radio personality and activist Ahmed Isah has made a dramatic U-turn by withdrawing a promised N500,000 donation to Mr Joseph Aloba, popularly known as Baba Mohbad, after discovering the late singer's father had received substantial financial contributions through other channels.

The Initial Promise and Sudden Reversal

The controversial decision unfolded during an episode of the Brekete Family radio program, which airs on Human Rights Radio. Just last week, Isah had publicly appealed to Nigerians to support Baba Mohbad, father of the deceased Afrobeat singer Mohbad Aloba who passed away on September 12, 2023.

During that initial broadcast, Isah defended Baba Mohbad against widespread criticism, arguing that the man had been unfairly vilified by the public. The radio host even claimed he had contacted the Lagos State Minister of Information and the Force PRO, accusing them of suppressing the legal case concerning justice for the late musician.

Bank Statement Revelation Changes Everything

The situation took an unexpected turn days later when Isah questioned his co-anchor Akaramakallah about why the N500,000 cash donation hadn't been delivered to Baba Mohbad yet. The response revealed a shocking discovery.

Akaramakallah disclosed that during their standard procedure of reviewing beneficiaries' bank statements, they found that Baba Mohbad had allegedly received $26,000 in donations through GoFundMe.

This revelation prompted immediate action from Isah, who interrupted the discussion to publicly announce that the money should be redirected to another family in genuine need.

Public Justification and Backlash

In his on-air explanation, Isah stated: "The N500,000 wey I say make you give am, no give am again. Look for any other person wey deserve help make you give am. As for Baba Mohbad, e get money with wetin I see and he no fit tell us how he spent the money."

The radio host further claimed that about 20 million naira had been contributed from another account for the corona inquest, suggesting that Baba Mohbad had access to significant financial resources.

The decision sparked mixed reactions on social media, with some users praising Isah for conducting proper investigation before distributing funds. User @eshi_ayo commented: "I have known and respected Ordinary Ahmed Isah for long. I was almost disappointed in him for giving that man money. If anyone needs money and help, it is Liam. Good that he is doing a proper investigation now."

Another user, @justcallbraider, predicted: "???????????, hmmmmmmmmm, he will kneel and apologize to his grandson, daughter inlaw and the whole of Nigeria at the end! We are getting there little by little ?????"

The controversy comes amid separate claims by actor Yomi Fabiyi, who alleges he possesses video evidence showing how Mohbad was murdered, naming the singer's widow Wunmi Cynthia Aloba and others as suspects in the case.
