Tiwa Savage Reveals Strict Parenting: Son Flies Economy, Earns Rewards
Tiwa Savage's Discipline-First Parenting Approach

Afrobeats superstar Tiwa Savage has provided a candid look into her parenting style, emphasizing discipline and intentional limits for her son despite her fame and fortune.

Philosophy Against Spoiling Children

The singer shared her approach in a series of posts on her Instagram story on January 10, 2026. She was reflecting on a video by renowned businesswoman and pastor, Ibukun Awosika.

Tiwa Savage warned parents against using their own success to "kill their children's ambition." She argued that children who have everything provided without effort may later struggle with finding their own passion and drive.

"A dream should be something bigger than your reality. Something you wish you had that you don't already," she wrote, explaining that a sense of need often fuels hard work and ambition.

Practical Lessons in Economy Class and Chores

Tiwa Savage revealed she is already applying this philosophy with her son, Jamil, whom she shares with her ex-husband Tunji 'TeeBillz' Balogun.

One key practice involves travel. While she sometimes uses private jets, she deliberately books her son in economy class for commercial flights. She recounted a recent trip where Jamil complained about neck pain and limited legroom.

"I found it amusing because his legs are still too short to even reach the front seat," she said, adding that she had to check on him throughout the flight as he was upset about the seating arrangement.

She is also teaching him the value of earning rewards. Jamil can no longer simply ask for things like Roblox game access. He must now earn them by doing household chores or achieving good grades in school.

Setting a Foundation with Love and Rules

The singer disclosed further household rules: no iPad, snacks, or candy on weekdays. Bible study has also become a mandatory nightly routine before bed.

Despite these strict measures, Tiwa was quick to clarify that Jamil is a well-behaved child. She described him as "a really good kid" and stressed that her actions stem from love and a desire to establish the right foundation early.

"I am intentional about setting a good foundation for him," she wrote. "This, in my view, is what real love looks like."

Tiwa Savage, one of Africa's most celebrated musicians, has been open about motherhood since welcoming Jamil in 2015, often discussing the challenges of raising a child in the public eye.
