Nollywood actress and filmmaker Toyin Abraham has described her husband, fellow actor Kola Ajeyemi, as the best thing to ever happen to her. Speaking on The Morayo Brown Show, she said: 'Kolawole Ajeyemi is one of the best things that ever happened to me. He lets me be me.'
Abraham Praises Husband's Maturity and Respect
Abraham highlighted how Ajeyemi does not attempt to control her. She recalled an incident after she gave birth when her husband saw her smoking but did not interfere, though he set clear boundaries that her habit must not affect their children. When asked if Ajeyemi is the jealous type or condones her kissing scenes in movies, Abraham dismissed it as a non-issue, describing him as a mature man who understands and respects her occupation.
One of Nollywood's Most Famous Couples
The couple, who first met on a movie set in Abeokuta, began dating officially in 2017 after knowing each other for over a decade. Their union was confirmed in August 2019 when a wedding photo was shared with a congratulatory message, ending months of speculation. Toyin had gotten engaged to Ajeyemi on July 4, 2019. Their marriage has made them one of the most famous couples in Nollywood.
Box Office Success and December Releases
Toyin Abraham is one of Nollywood's most popular actors and highest-grossing filmmakers. In 2025, her movie 'Over Sabi Aunty' grossed over ₦1.6 billion, becoming only the second Nollywood film to hit that milestone. Her 2024 film 'Alakada: Bad & Bougee' grossed ₦500.3 million. She explained that Nigerian filmmakers favor December releases to take advantage of the holiday season, but cited Dammy Twitch's 'Call of My Life', which grossed over ₦700 million, as an example of a top off-season release.
Rising Above Online Criticism
Abraham, who has faced heavy online criticism over her political position, shared that she has developed a thick skin from online trolls. 'There's nothing anybody will say now that is going to get to me anymore,' she said. When asked about her issues with fellow filmmaker Funke Akindele, Abraham dismissed the question, insisting she does not like to revisit her past. In 2025, news of a rift between the two successful filmmakers emerged after Funke Akindele snubbed her at the premiere of Iyabo Ojo's 'The Return of Arinzo'.
