Georgina Rodríguez explains intimate Ronaldo wedding at home

Georgina Rodríguez, wife of Portuguese football star Cristiano Ronaldo, has explained why the couple chose an intimate wedding in the living room of their home in Cascais, Portugal, instead of a lavish ceremony. The decision, she said, reflects her evolved view of a perfect wedding, now centered on family intimacy rather than grand spectacle.

Wedding Details and Background

Ronaldo and Rodríguez married on 11 August 2026, nearly a decade after meeting at a Gucci store in Madrid, where Rodríguez worked as a sales assistant. The couple kept the ceremony private before confirming their marriage on social media, with Ronaldo sharing a photo of their wedding rings bearing the initials “C & G”. Details later emerged in an interview with Vogue.

In the interview, Rodríguez explained that her childhood dream of a grand wedding changed as she grew older and built a family with Ronaldo. “As a little girl, I envisioned the grandest castle, the most magnificent carriage, the longest gown and a crown adorned with diamonds,” she said. “Now, I find myself saying: no. I desire something intimate, shared with my partner and our children, in the comfort of our home.”

Why the Living Room?

The living room held special significance for the couple. “We chose to hold the ceremony in our living room, the place where we share breakfast, lunch, and dinner, and where we experience our daily lives,” Rodríguez said. She added that the couple’s access to luxury made intimacy more valuable: “We have access to castles, houses, islands, horses, and cars every day. However, an intimate gathering is something more unique for us.”

Rodríguez also wanted the memory to last for their children. “In 30 years, I want our children to remember that something wonderful occurred at this table, the wedding vows of our parents.”

Ceremony and Symbolism

The wedding was attended by the couple’s five children—Cristiano Ronaldo Jr., twins Eva and Mateo, Alana and Bella—alongside four witnesses. Rodríguez wore a white silk Gucci skirt suit with satin shoes, while Ronaldo opted for a light beige suit and custom loafers. The choice of Gucci was symbolic, as it was at the brand’s Madrid store that Rodríguez first met Ronaldo in 2016. The couple later received a religious blessing at the Sanctuary of Fátima in Portugal.

Despite the simplicity, Rodríguez has not ruled out a larger celebration. The couple indicated they could hold a bigger event with relatives and friends at a later date.
