Security Forum Urges President Tinubu to Intervene in Military Pension Board Rifts

The Security and Public Affairs Analysts Forum (SPAF) has issued a strong call to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, demanding immediate action to address alleged obstacles preventing Air Vice Marshal Abubakar Idris from assuming his role as chairman of the Military Pensions Board. This appeal comes after his appointment on December 4, 2025, which the forum claims has been hindered by internal resistance within the board.

Reciprocity and Support for Presidential Authority

In a detailed statement released by Olasunjanmi Olayinkan, the head of investigation at SPAF, the forum emphasized its longstanding support for President Tinubu and his political allies. The group highlighted its backing of Tinubu's election in 2023 and its earlier support for Raji Tunde Fashola's gubernatorial campaign in Lagos State in 2007. SPAF now expects reciprocity, urging the President to investigate why his directives are being ignored, which they argue undermines his constitutional powers and sets a dangerous precedent for lawlessness and impunity.

Presidential directives are sacrosanct and should only be reversed through judicial processes, the statement stressed. Violations, according to SPAF, constitute a direct affront to the office of the President and could lead to chaos in governance structures.

Appeal for Prompt Resolution

The forum expressed appreciation for Tinubu's recent initiatives, such as tax reforms and actions against non-state actors, praising his patriotism and commitment to nation-building. However, they pointed to the specific case of Air Vice Marshal Abubakar Idris, who has been prevented from accessing his office at the Military Pensions Board without any official communication or valid reason from the President.

"We believe we should support the success of your administration, and we see the action of the Military Pension Board as an affront to your constitutional powers and authority," the statement read. SPAF called on Tinubu to intervene decisively to ensure the prompt resumption of Idris and other affected appointees, reinforcing the importance of upholding presidential authority in all governmental matters.
