Tinubu Praises Buhari's Legacy of Discipline at Biography Launch in Abuja
Tinubu Honors Buhari's Legacy at Book Launch

President Bola Tinubu delivered a heartfelt tribute to his predecessor, the late Muhammadu Buhari, during the public presentation of Buhari's official biography in Abuja on Monday, December 15. Tinubu described Buhari as a disciplined leader whose austere lifestyle and unwavering integrity fundamentally shaped his approach to public service.

A Tribute to Character and Service

Speaking at the event for the book titled From Soldier to Statesman: The Legacy of Muhammadu Buhari, President Tinubu stated it was a "profound honour" to unveil a work documenting the life of a man deeply committed to Nigeria. He emphasized that Buhari's record would continue to influence the nation's civic values.

Tinubu offered condolences to the former first family, saying, "I extend the nation’s warmest embrace to Her Excellency, Aisha Buhari, her children, and grandchildren." He assured them that the Buhari name would remain an inspiration for noble service.

The president argued that the true measure of Buhari's leadership was not in formal titles or ceremonies, but in enduring character. "It is what persists when the sirens fall silent," Tinubu noted, highlighting the late president's reputation for integrity and his belief that public office is a trust, not a windfall.

Recalling a Political Partnership

Tinubu revisited their shared political journey, particularly the coalition that led to the historic 2015 general election victory. "Together, we built a broad coalition, campaigned across the country, and proved that Nigeria could chart a new course," he recalled.

He credited that effort with altering Nigeria's political direction and creating a lasting party structure. Tinubu proudly noted that the All Progressives Congress (APC), born from that coalition, is now "the fastest-growing political party in Africa today."

The Pillars of the Buhari Legacy

President Tinubu outlined key areas he believes define Buhari's tenure from 2015 to 2023:

  • Security Reforms: Tinubu stated that Buhari invested in military platforms and personnel, improving capacities and pushing for enduring reforms beyond media headlines.
  • Infrastructure and Planning: He praised Buhari's focus on long-term infrastructure development and understanding of strategic national planning.
  • Social Investments: Tinubu highlighted programs designed to protect the most vulnerable Nigerians as a cornerstone of Buhari's governance.

Concluding his remarks, Tinubu called on Nigerians to build upon the foundations laid. "A legacy is given greater meaning when those who follow choose to continue what has been started. That is my duty," he affirmed.

The biography launch served as a moment of reflection on the life of Muhammadu Buhari, who died on July 13, 2025, at the age of 82 after a prolonged illness. He was buried in his hometown of Daura, Katsina State, following a state funeral attended by regional and international leaders.
