Lagos State Government Reschedules Youth Leadership Academy Program
The Lagos State Ministry of Youth and Social Development has officially announced the postponement of its highly anticipated Leadership Academy for Youth, widely known as the IBILE Youth Ambassador Programme. Originally scheduled to take place from January to February 2026, the program has been deferred to ensure maximum participation from eligible young individuals across the state.
Examination Schedules Prompt Program Adjustment
In an official statement released by the Assistant Director of Public Affairs, Isiwele Gabriel Olushola, the ministry clarified that the decision was made primarily to accommodate prospective participants who are currently engaged in their academic examinations. Many of these participants are students from various tertiary institutions within Lagos State, and the adjustment aims to prevent any conflicts between their academic responsibilities and the leadership training opportunity.
The Commissioner for Youth and Social Development, Mr. Mobolaji Abubakre Ogunlende, emphasized the ministry's commitment to inclusivity in his remarks. "We have decided to shift the date earlier fixed for the annual leadership academy for our youths, taking into cognisance the fact that most of them are currently writing their examinations," Ogunlende stated. He further explained, "Since there is nothing cast in stone about the former arrangements, we are taking this step just to ensure that as many as possible among our young people are given the opportunity to participate. We don't want any eligible young person to be denied this once-in-a-year opportunity or sidelined for any reason."
Revised Schedule for 2026 Leadership Training
With the postponement, the ministry has outlined a new timeline for the IBILE Youth Ambassador Programme. The updated schedule includes:
- Divisional training sessions running from 9 to 13 February 2026
- A One Day Leadership Seminar and Alumni Launch scheduled for 17 February 2026
- A Residential Bootcamp taking place from 22 to 28 February 2026
Enhanced Program Experience Promised
Commenting on the program's new developments, the Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Pharm (Mrs) Toyin Oke-Osanyintolu, reassured participants of an enriched experience. She highlighted that this year's edition would feature more enlightening leadership packages and fun-filled activities, all designed to be conducted in a conducive environment. Oke-Osanyintolu expressed confidence that these improvements would make the 2026 program superior to previous editions.
"This adjustment reflects the Ministry's commitment to supporting the academic responsibilities of young people while providing meaningful leadership and capacity building opportunities for participants," the Permanent Secretary added. The ministry's proactive approach underscores its dedication to balancing educational pursuits with extracurricular development, ensuring that youth in Lagos State have access to comprehensive growth opportunities.
