Father and Son Apprehended for Unlawful Firearm Possession in Ogun State

Operatives from the Quick Response Squad (QRS) of the Ogun State Police Command have made a significant arrest, detaining two suspects—a father and his teenage son—for alleged illegal possession of a firearm. The suspects, identified as Joseph Kehinde, aged 38, and his son John Joseph, aged 13, were taken into custody along the Sagamu-Ogijo Road axis following a meticulous police operation.

Details of the Arrest and Recovery

According to Deputy Superintendent of Police Oluseyi Babaseyi, the spokesperson for the Ogun State Police Command, the incident unfolded on Sunday, April 5, 2026, at approximately 11:00 p.m. During a routine stop-and-search operation in the Lafarge area along Sagamu-Ogijo Road, QRS operatives intercepted a tricycle transporting the younger suspect, John Joseph. A thorough search of the vehicle led to the discovery of a locally made pistol, a live cartridge, and a mask. The teenage suspect was unable to provide a satisfactory explanation for the ownership of these items.

In a subsequent development, John Joseph claimed that the firearm belonged to his father, Joseph Kehinde. Acting on this information, the police intensified their efforts, resulting in the arrest of the father. Both suspects, along with the recovered exhibits, have been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for a comprehensive and thorough investigation to uncover all aspects of the case.
