The Ogun State Police Command has dismissed claims of banditry surrounding the attack on a private dredging site in Magbon Etido, Mowe, which resulted in the death of one soldier and injuries to another.

According to the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, the incident occurred at a private dredging site in Magbon Etido, Mowe. One soldier lost his life, while another sustained injuries and is currently receiving treatment at a hospital.

Police Response

DSP Babaseyi confirmed the incident in a statement issued in Abeokuta. He emphasized that the attack was an isolated criminal act and not linked to banditry, contrary to rumors circulating on social media and elsewhere.

“Preliminary findings do not indicate any connection between the incident and banditry activities in Ogun State. Investigations and tactical operations remain ongoing,” the PRO stated.

Security Measures

Police operatives, in collaboration with the Military, swiftly mobilized to the area and commenced coordinated operations to apprehend those responsible. The Command assured residents that the situation is under control, security presence has been reinforced, and there is no cause for alarm.
