The Northern Regional Police Command in Ghana has arrested two Nigerian nationals, Daniel Victor Eze and David Oko Ewa, in connection with the murder of 36-year-old Nkemujika Uzochukwu Eze, a fellow Nigerian. The incident occurred in Sanzirigu, a suburb of Tamale, and the suspects were apprehended while attempting to flee into Togo.
Discovery of the Body
On Saturday, July 11, 2026, police received a report that Eze had been found lying motionless in a pool of blood in his bedroom. Officers who responded to the scene discovered the deceased with a deep cut wound to the forehead and a towel stuffed into his mouth. The bedroom had also been ransacked. Investigators recovered a wooden pestle believed to have been used in the attack, along with other items for forensic examination.
Suspects' Arrest and Confession
Through intelligence-led operations, police intercepted and arrested the two suspects at Tamale on the same day while they were attempting to flee into the Republic of Togo via the Tatale route. During interrogation, the suspects allegedly admitted to conspiring to murder the deceased after claiming that he had been withholding proceeds they had obtained through internet fraud activities.
Recovery of Stolen Items
A search conducted following their arrest led to the recovery of several items suspected to have been stolen from the deceased's room, including multiple mobile phones, laptop computers, a tablet, jewellery, clothing, wristwatches, personal documents, and other valuables. All recovered items have been retained as exhibits to support ongoing investigations.
Victim's Living Situation
Preliminary investigations revealed that the deceased shared a three-bedroom apartment with his wife, Peace Uzochukwu, the two suspects, and another Nigerian national identified as Godwin Nwafor. The body of the victim was conveyed to the Tamale Teaching Hospital, where a medical officer confirmed his death. It has since been deposited at the hospital mortuary pending an autopsy.
Legal Proceedings
The suspects remain in police custody and are expected to be arraigned before court on Monday, July 13, 2026. The Northern Regional Police Command has stated its commitment to ensuring that all persons involved are brought to justice and urges the public to continue supporting the police by volunteering credible information to help fight crime.
