Bandits Strike Kebbi Farming Community, Abduct Eight
Armed bandits have carried out another devastating attack in Kebbi State, kidnapping eight farmers from the Gandun Wasagu community in Danko Wasagu Local Government Area. The violent incident occurred on Saturday afternoon, November 22, while the farmers were working in their fields.
Local Government Confirms Attack Details
The Chairman of Danko Wasagu Local Government, Hussaini Aliyu Bena, officially confirmed the disturbing event to journalists. He revealed that in addition to the eight abductions, one person suffered gunshot wounds during the attack.
"Eight of our farmers were taken away, and one person was shot," Bena stated. "The injured victim is receiving treatment at the Wasagu General Hospital. We are working with security agencies to ensure the safe return of those abducted."
The local government chairman emphasized that authorities immediately reported the incident to military personnel operating in the area. Security forces have launched pursuit operations with the specific mission of rescuing the victims unharmed.
Community Living in Fear
According to local residents, the armed attackers are suspected to have crossed into Kebbi State from neighboring Zamfara State. The gunmen operated for several minutes in the community before escaping with their captives.
One resident who identified himself as Sani described the terrifying situation facing the farming community. "People are afraid to go back to the farms now," he expressed. "This is the second time in less than two weeks. We don't know what will happen next if nothing is done."
The repeated attacks have created an atmosphere of fear and uncertainty among local farmers, threatening agricultural activities and food security in the region.
Security Analyst Sounds Alarm
Security expert Bakatsine, who first brought public attention to the incident through his social media platform X (formerly Twitter), warned that the pattern of attacks indicates a deteriorating security situation.
"The situation in Wasagu is becoming desperate," Bakatsine cautioned. "We need urgent, coordinated action before these communities are completely overwhelmed."
The security analyst's warning highlights the growing concern among experts about the escalating banditry crisis in northwestern Nigeria, particularly in border communities between Kebbi and Zamfara states.
This latest abduction adds to the growing list of security challenges facing rural communities in northwestern Nigeria, where farming communities have become frequent targets of armed bandits seeking ransom payments.
