Army Rescues Abducted Pastor, Recovers Rifle in Plateau

In a decisive security operation, troops of the Nigerian Army have successfully rescued a kidnapped clergyman in Plateau State. The victim, Reverend Ephraim Yakubu, was freed from his captors in the Miango area of Bassa Local Government Area.

Details of the Abduction and Rescue

Reverend Ephraim Yakubu was abducted on Tuesday, 3 December 2025, right in front of his residence at Agingi Village along the Rukuba Road. The following day, on 4 December, army personnel on a clearance patrol around the high grounds of the Miango axis engaged the kidnappers at approximately 7:40 AM.

The confrontation forced the abductors to flee the scene. During a subsequent search of the area, the troops discovered Reverend Yakubu. He was found tied up under a rock and had sustained injuries during his period in captivity.

Arms Recovery and Medical Response

The security personnel conducted a thorough sweep of the scene following the engagement. Their efforts led to the recovery of significant evidence. One fabricated rifle with a magazine containing eight rounds of 9mm ammunition was retrieved from the location.

Immediately after his rescue, the injured pastor was evacuated to receive urgent medical care. He was taken to the 3 Military Specialist Hospital (3 DMSH) for professional attention and treatment.

Ongoing Security Operations

The Nigerian Army has confirmed that the mission is not yet complete. Efforts are actively ongoing to track and apprehend the fleeing kidnappers. This operation underscores the military's continued commitment to combating criminal elements and securing troubled regions.

This incident highlights the persistent security challenges in parts of Plateau State, particularly concerning kidnapping for ransom. The successful rescue, however, serves as a testament to the proactive measures being undertaken by security forces in the area.
