Four RSU Students Abducted, Police in Pursuit

Port Harcourt, Rivers State – The Rivers State Police Command has officially confirmed the abduction of four students from Rivers State University (RSU) in a brazen early morning attack. The incident, which has sent shockwaves through the academic community, occurred in the Emohua Local Government Area.

Details of the Early Morning Attack

According to the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Grace Iringe-Koko, the abduction took place on Tuesday, December 2, 2025, at approximately 2:30 am. A group of about five armed men, suspected to be cultists, targeted an isolated area within the Rumuche/Rumuohia Community in Emohua. The assailants seized the four university students from the location.

In response, the State Commissioner of Police, CP Olugbenga Adepoju, immediately visited the scene for an on-the-spot assessment alongside other service commanders. The police chief has directed a full-scale operation, mandating the Area Commander, all tactical units, and the Joint Taskforce to intensify efforts aimed at rescuing the victims and apprehending the kidnappers.

Police Assurances and Student Protest

SP Iringe-Koko, in a statement, assured the public that the police are determined to bring the perpetrators to justice. "The CP has assured that all suspects involved will be brought to justice and made to face the full wrath of the law," she stated. The police investigation team is actively working to identify the culprits and track their hideouts, urging the public to remain calm and provide credible information.

The abduction triggered immediate panic and fear among the RSU student body. Hours after the news broke, students organized a procession to protest the insecurity. They marched with placards to the office of the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Isaac Zeb-Obipi, to voice their grievances.

Mariam Odungweru, the SOSAN Social Science Student Association representative at the Student Representative Council, presented their case. "Sir, this morning four people were abducted and the guard at the hostel was killed and their automatic rifles carted away," she revealed. She pleaded for the management to relocate students from the Emohua campus to the main campus and expedite actions to secure their colleagues' release.

University Management's Response and Way Forward

In his response, Vice-Chancellor Professor Zeb-Obipi assured the protesting students that their safety is the management's top priority. He revealed that the upcoming university convocation, scheduled for the weekend and expected to be attended by the state governor as the school visitor, would be a crucial platform to address the security challenges.

"We are having our convocation on Friday and Saturday and we are very sure that this issue will be raised, discussed, and hopefully addressed," the VC said. He appealed for unity and information sharing, suspending lectures to allow concerted efforts towards the safe rescue of the abducted students. "We are going to concentrate efforts in ensuring that we get our students who were kidnapped safely back," he concluded.

The Rivers State Police Command continues its manhunt, while the university community holds its breath, hoping for the swift and safe return of the four students.
