The family of an abducted Anglican priest from Kaduna diocese has revealed heartbreaking details about his death in captivity while making an emotional appeal for his wife's release.
Tragic Timeline of Kidnapping and Death
Venerate Edwin Achi and his wife Sarah were kidnapped on October 28, 2025 from Kaduna state, joining the growing list of victims in Nigeria's security crisis. The couple's nightmare took a tragic turn when the priest was killed while still in captivity.
According to the priest's nephew, who identified himself as @monsieur_avreel on social media platform X, his uncle was killed two days before kidnappers uploaded pictures of the couple on social media. The family discovered the horrifying truth when the abductors posted the images on the priest's own Facebook page.
Family's Emotional Appeal for Wife's Release
In an emotional post that moved many to tears, the nephew revealed that Sarah Achi works as an officer with the Nigeria Customs Service and has two very young children. The couple leaves behind a toddler aged 3 and an infant of just 1½ years, adding to the tragedy of their situation.
The nephew directly appealed to the Nigeria Customs Service, writing: "@CustomsNG that woman is your officer. She has a toddler(3) and an infant(1½). Let her not die like her husband!"
Outrageous Ransom Demands and Public Reaction
Activist Harrison Gwamnishu of the Safe City Foundation provided additional context, confirming that the kidnappers are demanding an outrageous N600 million ransom for the couple's release, though the priest has already been killed.
The revelation sparked widespread anger and frustration among Nigerians on social media. User @SuperG91613410 expressed the collective despair: "What is/are the benefit(s) of being citizen of Nigeria? Tell me what would motivate anyone to be patriotic?"
Another user, @Neuton0001, highlighted the irony in security response: "Nigeria custom can crawl any where to seize smuggled rice but can't go and seize back their officer who was seized by terrorists."
The tragic case of Reverend Achi and his wife has become another symbol of Nigeria's escalating security challenges, particularly in Kaduna state where kidnappings for ransom have become increasingly common.
