The Minister of State for Agriculture and Food Security, Senator Aliyu Sabi Abdullahi, has publicly commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his pivotal role in securing the release of all kidnapped pupils and staff from St. Mary's Catholic Primary and Secondary School in Niger State.
A Month-Long Ordeal Ends in Freedom
The harrowing incident began in the early hours of November 21, 2025, when assailants stormed the boarding facility of St. Mary's School located in the Papiri community, within the Agwara Local Government Area of the Borgu Emirate. The abduction sent shockwaves across the nation, leaving families in profound distress.
Senator Abdullahi, in a heartfelt statement, expressed his immense gratitude for the successful resolution. He revealed that the path to freedom was gradual. Approximately 50 of the abducted pupils managed to escape from captivity initially. This was followed by the release of a batch of 100 individuals on December 7, 2025. The final group of 130 victims was secured just a few days before Christmas, bringing the total number freed to 280 and finally ending weeks of anxiety.
Coordinated Efforts Behind the Success
The Minister highlighted the concerted efforts that led to this positive outcome. He specifically thanked President Tinubu for his "quiet but firm insistence" on deploying necessary security assets to ensure the victims' release. Abdullahi also praised the National Security Adviser, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, for his superb coordination of the operation.
Furthermore, he applauded the Niger State Governor, Mohammed Umar Bago, whom he referred to as "Farmer Governor," for his courageous and tireless efforts in rallying local support. "I want to say Bravo for your courage and tireless efforts in rallying the needed support that brought the kidnap saga to a most welcome close," the Minister's statement read.

Senator Abdullahi, who described the incident as a "most touching experience" that caused him sleepless nights due to personal linkages to the Borgu Kingdom, stated that many lessons can be drawn from this event. He noted that the successful resolution underscores President Tinubu's determination to ensure the security of all Nigerians.
The Minister issued a call for continued public support for security agencies. He urged citizens to remain vigilant and cooperate fully with security establishments to help rid communities of criminal elements who threaten peace.
