The Nasarawa State Police Command has announced a significant victory against criminal elements terrorising parts of the state. In a coordinated operation involving local hunters, police forces neutralised one suspected kidnapper and apprehended nine others. The successful mission also led to the rescue of seven abducted victims across various locations.
Intelligence-Led Operations Yield Major Breakthrough
Commissioner of Police Shetima Jauro-Mohammed disclosed the details during a press briefing held on Friday in Lafia, the state capital. He attributed the success to proactive, intelligence-driven policing and collaboration with community stakeholders like hunters.
The operation targeted a gang responsible for a series of kidnappings and armed robberies in Awe Local Government Area and its environs. Acting on credible intelligence regarding the abduction of one Shuaibu Umoru (43) in Giza town, operatives from the Awe Division, alongside hunters, launched a manhunt. This led to a confrontation where one suspect was neutralised, and others were arrested.
Arrests, Bribery Attempt, and Victim Rescues
In a separate but connected incident on January 2, 2026, around 17:54 hours, police on routine patrol in Nasarawa Eggon intercepted two men on a Daylong motorcycle. The suspects, identified as 29-year-old Musa Ahmed from Nunku village, Akwanga LGA, and 28-year-old Adamu Yusuf from Bassa village, Kokona LGA, attempted to bribe the officers with N200,000. The money was rejected and recorded as an exhibit.
Preliminary investigations revealed the duo were involved in a prior kidnapping in Arusu village, Kokona LGA, where they escaped with bullet wounds after police rescued the victim. CP Jauro-Mohammed also confirmed the arrest of two notorious armed robbery suspects by the command's Anti-robbery section.
In another commendable feat, the command's operatives successfully rescued four abducted children following discreet, intelligence-led operations. The CP emphasised that these efforts underscore the command's commitment to a proactive approach in tackling crime.
Recovered Exhibits and Continued Vigilance
The police recovered several items from the suspects, which will aid in prosecution and further investigations. The recovered exhibits include:
- Firearms
- Two rounds of ammunition
- Two magazines
- One motorcycle
- The sum of Two Hundred Thousand Naira (N200,000)
Commissioner Shetima Jauro-Mohammed reassured residents of Nasarawa State of the command's unwavering dedication to ensuring safety and security. He called for continued public support and the timely provision of useful information to security agencies to sustain the fight against criminality.
