Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, has made a heartfelt appeal to Nigerians, urging them to extend consistent support to the families of military personnel who lost their lives in service to the nation. The governor emphasized that this care should go beyond the annual commemorations.

The appeal was delivered on Wednesday, January 16, 2026, during the Armed Forces Celebration and Remembrance Day Parade held at the Arcade Ground within the Governor's Office in Ogun State. Governor Abiodun was represented at the event by his deputy, Noimot Oyedele Salako.
Speaking on behalf of the governor, Salako-Oyedele stressed that governments at every level must prioritize and enhance welfare packages for the loved ones left behind by these brave men and women. She highlighted that the annual event is a solemn occasion to honor those who sacrificed their lives to protect Nigeria from both internal and external threats.

"We are celebrating our Armed Forces who continue to serve this country despite all challenges," the Deputy Governor stated. She explained that the day serves as a joint celebration of both the serving and the departed. According to her, the most meaningful way to keep the legacy of these heroes alive is to remember their ultimate sacrifice and actively care for their families.
