The Lagos State Bureau of Public Defender (BPD) has finalized arrangements to host a training session on June 4 as part of ongoing efforts to improve policing activities in Lagos State. The Permanent Secretary of the BPD, Dr. Babajide Olumuyiwa Martins, made this known during a courtesy visit to the Commissioner of Police, Tijani Fatai. The visit aimed to discuss strategies for enhancing policing and strengthening collaboration between the BPD and the Lagos Police Command.
The training is scheduled to take place at the Police Officers’ Wives Association Hall in GRA, Lagos, a location chosen to ensure convenient access for attending officers. During the visit, Dr. Martins commended the police command for maintaining law and order across the state, while noting that there remains room for improvement in police operations and their relationship with residents.
Dr. Martins emphasized the critical importance of continuous training for police officers. He stated that the Commissioner of Police welcomed the initiative and described such training as essential for boosting the capacity of officers in the execution of their duties. According to the bureau, this partnership is designed to support the statutory functions of the Bureau of Public Defender while simultaneously helping officers cultivate better relationships with youths and other residents during policing activities.
The bureau also revealed plans to organize a comprehensive training program for police officers focusing on effective policing and public relations. This initiative underscores the commitment of both the BPD and the Lagos Police Command to fostering a more professional and community-oriented police force.
