The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has assured residents of maximum security during the 2026 Eid-El-Kabir celebration. Commissioner of Police Ahmed Muhammed announced the deployment of personnel from the Police, Military, Department of State Services (DSS), and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) to protect lives and property.
Joint Security Operation Activated
In a statement by FCT Police Public Relations Officer Josephine Adeh, the Command has strengthened security deployments across the territory. A coordinated joint security architecture under the code name “Operation Sweep FCT” has been activated in collaboration with sister agencies including the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) and Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS). The operation is divided into strategic sectors, with personnel conducting continuous patrols and coordinated security operations to deter and swiftly respond to criminal activities.
Preventive Measures and Intelligence Operations
As part of preventive security, Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) teams have been directed to conduct proactive sweeps of worship centres, recreational facilities, and other venues expected to host large gatherings. Intelligence-led operations and targeted raids on flashpoints and locations associated with illicit drug activities have also been ordered, with clear directives that all operations must be conducted professionally and within legal standards.
Strategic Meeting with Officers
Commissioner Muhammed held a strategic Zoom meeting with all Divisional Police Officers (DPOs) and Divisional Crime Officers (DCOs) across the Command. He charged them to remain proactive, vigilant, and professional before, during, and after the celebrations. He emphasized the need for heightened visibility policing, prompt response to distress situations, and stronger community engagement.
Call for Professional Conduct
The CP warned that no form of unprofessional conduct would be tolerated. He directed all officers to remain disciplined, properly dressed, courteous, and respectful in all interactions with the public. The Command reaffirmed its commitment to protecting lives and property and urged residents to remain law-abiding, security conscious, and to report suspicious activities through emergency numbers: 08032003913 and 07057337653.
The Command wished all Muslim faithful and residents a peaceful, secure, and joyous Eid-El-Kabir celebration.
