Eid-el-Kabir: Security Agencies Deploy in Lagos, Ogun

In preparation for the 2026 Eid-el-Kabir celebration, security agencies have intensified efforts to ensure public safety and order across Lagos and Ogun states. The Ogun State Police Command has deployed personnel and operational assets to strategic locations, including Eid prayer grounds, major highways, recreational centers, markets, motor parks, and residential areas.

Police Deployment in Ogun State

The command's spokesperson, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, confirmed the deployment in a statement released yesterday. He explained that the aim is to ensure visible policing, effective crowd control, early threat detection, and swift response to emerging security concerns before, during, and after the festivities. Commissioner of Police Bode Ojajuni has directed all Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers, and Tactical Commanders to remain on high alert to protect lives and property. Operatives have been instructed to conduct aggressive patrols, stop-and-search operations, and maintain round-the-clock supervision within their areas. They are also required to strengthen collaboration with community leaders, transport unions, and other stakeholders to enhance intelligence sharing and prevent any breakdown of law and order.

Ojajuni reassured residents of the command's commitment to proactive policing and peace. He urged the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to the nearest police formation or via emergency lines.

FRSC Traffic Management Measures

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) Ogun State Sector Command has deployed 32 patrol vehicles, six motorcycles, three ambulances, and two tow trucks to reduce road traffic crashes and ensure smooth traffic flow during the Sallah period. Sector Commander Corps Commander Oludare Ogunjobi, in a statement by Public Relations Officer Afolabi Odunsi, said the deployment aims to enhance visibility patrols, prompt rescue response, traffic control, and enforcement of traffic regulations. He admonished residents and motorists to avoid reckless driving, dangerous overtaking, overloading, speeding, use of mobile phones while driving, drunk driving, and other violations. He warned that driving beyond the approved speed limit is a major cause of crashes and that offenders will be arrested and prosecuted.

Ogunjobi emphasized the need for patience, tolerance, and discipline among road users, noting that road safety is a shared responsibility. He called on stakeholders, transport unions, fleet operators, and passengers to support the corps in achieving a crash-free festive season.

NSCDC Deployment in Lagos

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) Lagos State Command has deployed 2,150 officers and men to ensure security and prevent vandalism of critical national assets and infrastructure. Commandant Adedotun Keshinro highlighted the importance of timely deployment due to increased movement of residents, travelers, and visitors during the celebration. The operational strategies aim to rid the state of criminals and curb activities of vandals and other elements undermining economic growth. Officers have been charged to intensify efforts to protect strategic locations, facilities, rights of way, oil pipeline installations, worship centers, parks, and other critical assets. Keshinro urged personnel to remain on red alert, professional, and respectful of public rights. He encouraged the Muslim Ummah to imbibe the spirit of sacrifice, prayer, sobriety, compassion, and faith, and to pray for Nigeria's unity, peace, and progress. He appealed to the public to report incidents via official NSCDC communication channels and emergency lines.

NSCDC Deployment in Ogun

In Ogun State, the NSCDC deployed 1,920 personnel across the state to protect lives and property. State Commandant Remilekun Ekundayo, in a statement by Public Relations Officer Sulaimon Folorunso, said the deployment follows the Federal Government's declaration of public holidays for Eid-el-Kabir. Personnel were drawn from various departments, units, tactical squads, divisions, and area commands to strengthen security presence and maintain law and order. The operation focuses on protecting residents, visitors, and critical national assets belonging to federal, state, and local governments. Ekundayo noted that proactive deployment helps prevent vandalism, economic sabotage, and other criminal activities. She charged personnel to exhibit high discipline, professionalism, civility, and operational alertness while maintaining cordial relations with the public. She congratulated Muslim faithful and urged residents to uphold peace, tolerance, unity, sacrifice, and mutual understanding. She also appealed for public support in reporting suspicious persons or activities to the nearest NSCDC formation or other security agencies.
