The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has initiated a special enforcement operation in Ogun State to combat the use of fake number plates, vehicle overloading, and unsafe haulage practices. The Ogun State Command of the FRSC announced that the initiative, code-named "Operation Guduma," is designed to curb fatal road crashes on Nigerian highways.
Operation Details
Spokesperson for the Corps in the state, Afolabi Odunsi, confirmed the development in a statement released on Tuesday. He stated that enforcement teams have been deployed to monitor and prosecute offenders involved in the use of counterfeit diplomatic plates, overloading, mixed loading of passengers and goods, and the transportation of unsecured containers.
According to Odunsi, the operation follows directives from the FRSC National Headquarters and is supervised by Assistant Corps Marshal J.O. Asaolu, in collaboration with Ogun State Sector Commander, Corps Commander Oludare Ogunjobi. He emphasized that the exercise specifically targets counterfeit diplomatic plates, overloading beyond approved capacity, unsafe mixed loading, and failure to properly secure containers with safety locks and mechanisms.
Enforcement Focus
“The operation targets counterfeit diplomatic plates, overloading, mixed loading of passengers and goods, and unsecured containers,” the statement noted. The Sector Commander, Oludare Ogunjobi, urged motorists, transport operators, and fleet managers to strictly comply with traffic regulations both during and after the enforcement period. He reiterated that the Corps maintains a zero-tolerance policy for violations that endanger lives and property, stressing that road safety remains its top priority.
