Igboho Awaits FG Approval for Security Network

Yoruba nation activist Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho, has announced that he is awaiting approval from the Federal Government led by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to launch his security outfit, the Iru Ekun Security Network, in the Southwest region.

Igboho stated that the network is designed to flush out criminal elements from the forests of the Southwest. He made this known in a statement issued in Ibadan on Monday, May 25, 2026, as reported by The Punch.

Documents Submitted for Approval

Igboho revealed that all required documents for the registered security firm have been submitted. He expressed confidence that the Federal Government's approval would be granted soon, allowing the network to commence operations.

He also affirmed his readiness to comply with Governor Seyi Makinde's Executive Order regulating private security firms in Oyo State.

Collaboration with Security Agencies

Igboho emphasized the network's willingness to collaborate with the Police, Department of State Service, Nigeria Army, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, and other stakeholders. The goal is to eliminate terrorists, kidnappers, bandits, and other criminals threatening peace and safety, particularly in rural communities.

He commended President Tinubu for his commitment to restructuring the security architecture in the Southwest and across Nigeria.

"Without peace and security, healthy socioeconomic developments cannot thrive, most especially in the rural communities which remain the hub of agricultural production critical to the nation's food security and means of livelihood for farmers," Igboho said.

Background on Iru Ekun Security Network

Recall that Igboho launched the Iru Ekun security network to combat criminal activities in the Southwest. He described the initiative as free and voluntary, aimed at protecting communities from bandits and insurgents.

The announcement sparked reactions on social media, with many questioning the need for a new security outfit given the existence of the Amotekun Corps, officially known as the Western Nigeria Security Network.

Previous Activism

Earlier, Igboho submitted a petition to UK Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer, urging the UK authorities to consider the creation of a Yoruba Nation. The petition was submitted on behalf of Professor Adebanji Akintoye, leader of the Yoruba Nation movement.

Igboho's latest move underscores his continued advocacy for security and self-determination in the Southwest region.
